COVID-19 Updates

June 3rd, 2020 Update:

COVID-19

Is it OK to see my pediatrician during COVID-19?

Yes! Harvest Pediatrics is open and taking extra steps to make sure you and your children are safe when you come in.

Now more than ever, it is essential that families stay connected to their pediatrician and medical home.

The providers at Harvest Pediatrics care about the health of your baby, child, or teen.

We are happy to talk to you about anything from medicines and illnesses to injuries and behavior issues.

In the office

Even though families are staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, there are still important reasons why you may need to bring your child in to the office, including:

  • Newborn visits after hospital discharge.
  • Stay up-to-date on immunizations.
  • To complete hearing and vision screenings.
  • Monitor growth, blood pressure, and other vital signs.
  • Check labs, such as for anemia.
  • Check on developmental milestones.
  • Treat injuries.
  • ADHD initial evaluations and follow up.
  • Adolescent health concerns, such as screening or follow up for depression/anxiety and eating disorders.

Requirements for in the office visit:

  • One parent with one child. The parent must wear a mask as well as a child if age-appropriate.Of course, we do not expect infants or toddlers to wear a mask!It is not developmentally appropriate.
  • For newborn visits, both parents can be present.
  • A greeter will ask you to answer screening questions and will take your temperature at the front door.

What to do if your child gets sick

Sometimes it is hard to tell how sick your child is. Luckily, a trip to the hospital is usually not needed for a simple cold or cough, mild diarrhea, constipation, temper tantrums, or sleep problems.

Call us for any concerns you may have about your child's health.

Video/Telemedicine/Virtual visits

For sick appointments, we are offering video visits. Call us, and we will arrange it.

The provider may feel a face to face assessment is necessary.  For example, check ears or listen to lungs.  If so, we will see your child in the parking lot with appropriate precautions.

If your child has been exposed to COVID-19, or you are concerned about your child's symptoms, call us immediately. We will review the situation with you.  If clinically indicated, we will arrange testing through the Napa County Health Department.

Emergencies

If you feel you need to call 911, trust your instincts and call.

Otherwise, it is generally a good idea to check in with us first. We can help over the phone or help coordinate other kinds of care for your child without going to the hospital.

Most of all, do not avoid calling us or worry that a trip to the clinic or hospital will put you or your child at higher risk for COVID-19.

Our office and local emergency department are still seeing and treating patients and are following all the recommended steps to keep patients and families safe.
